Hello everyone! I finally found internet access here! it's just a little computer
shop that apparently no one knows about...I only found it because I went wandering
around the town. They have a slightly different keyboard layout here, so please
excuse any typoes.
I arrived here by ferry...not a little ferry like one might think, but a large ship that regularly carries something like 20 cars. The town is small enough that I walked all the way around it in just a few hours this morning. My hostel is very good, I'm in a room with two beds, but so far I am alone. This is good, since I don't have to worry about my things being stolen, but bad because I do not have anyone to talk with. I am planning on staying here for two more nights, and then on to Amsterdam. I might stop in Brussles along the way...depends on the train times, and whether I can reserve a room for Ams.
This is the first place I've been where people don't speak english. It really makes me feel like I'm somewhere different. Even though they have a funny accent in England, it still seems similar enough that I felt fine. Here even if I go down to the lounge / TV area, I am still isolated by the language barrier. Luckally I have not had any seriouse problems when it comes to food, etc. In most places I can just point to what I want and say "Je voudrč...", they understand fine.
The weather up till now has been pretty awful. Not quite raining, but drizzling heavily. Just enough to make everything damp. Except, of course, my spirits! I wouldn't let something as minor as the weather get me down!
Anyway, I am enjoying myself immensly, and I hope all of you are doing well, too.
Yours from France,
Scott
