This will be my last night here in London. I have decided to take a hovercraft
across from Dover to Calais, France. I don't know if I'll be able to find internet
access there or not, so this might be my last e-mail until I reach Amsterdam,
where I'm sure I'll be able to find access.
This morning I went over to the Tate Gallery. They have a good exhibit of British artists. Most of the pieces I saw dated from the 16th century onward, including quite a few from WWII era. I think the most moving thing I saw, for me, were statues by a German sculptor...I don't remember her name right now, but I got a postcard of one of her pieces. She used iron to make forms of a man, "Storm Man", and a woman, "Hurricane Woman." They almost looked like they had been left out to rust for years....the metal was all distorted, and it brought to my mind images of Hiroshima. I understand that while she was thinking of the sufferring during WWII, she did not intend for this to be representative of what happenned with the a-bomb.
After the Tate gallery, I wanderred on down to the lower marsh market, hoping to do a little shopping. Silly me, I hadn't thought of the fact that they close up almost everything on Sundays. Even Post offices...I've got about five postcards waiting to go out. I guess I'll have to send them tomorrow morning, or from Dover. When I got back 'home' to the hostel, I sat and watched a futbol match. It's really getting to be interesting to me. Of course, since the American team has already been knocked out, I'm never quite sure who to root for. A quick lunch, and then another game....I was supposed to meet a friend for dinner around 9:00, but he has yet to show. I guess I'll just grab a snack and head for bed.
Hope you're all doing well!
